THE FAULT IN OUR STARS Poster Highlights Sick Love

Of course, the word “sick” can be interpreted very differently… and it can also be a double (or more) entendre, so take the tagline to the awesome movie poster for The Fault in Our Stars any way(s) you wish.

The poster features Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, and also stars Nat Wolff, Laura Dern, and Willem Dafoe.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS Author Asks TFIOS Actors Questions

Last week, John Green spent a few minutes with actor Ansel Elgort (Gus Waters) and Mike Birbiglia (Patrick, the support group leader) to do some Q&A for The Fault in Our Stars fans, where we find out what Ansel’s favorite scene to shoot was and the unique way in how he found out he got the part of Gus, and how Mike became interested in being part of the movie… kind of.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS Release Date Set For Summer 2014

We finally have a set release date for The Fault In Our Stars movie, which was revealed by Box Office Mojo.

The highly anticipated adaptation of John Green’s beloved novel The Fault in Our Stars will be released in theaters on June 6, 2014.  The film stars Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff, and Willem Dafoe.

So, what does this mean?  For one, it will open 11 weeks (just under 3 months) after the release date for the other YA-based movie that stars Shailene Woodley, Divergent.

And second, it opens against Tom Cruise‘s sci-fi/action movie, Edge of Tomorrow.  Of course, this is about as different tone a movie can be as compared to TFiOS, however, much of the target audience is about the same.

Given that, the one thing that TFiOS must rely on is the portrayal of the characters from the book.  From what author John Green and director Josh Boone have touted, it’s very possible that is going to happen.

However, there’s also the factor of the outcome of the Divergent movie.  Again, these two movies have completely different storylines, but both Shailene and Ansel are in both movies, and how well they are able to portray Tris and Caleb in Divergent, as well as the overall outcome of the Divergent film itself, will undeniably affect how people will respond to them as Hazel and Gus in The Fault in Our Stars before they even see the movie.

So, what do you think of this release date?  Is it too soon after Divergent?  Is it too weak against Tom Cruise and his “soldiers vs. aliens” action flick?

Actor David Whalen Talks About THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

Pittsburgh local actor David Whalen has been acting on both stage and screen, and will now be playing the role of Mr. Waters, Augustus Waters’ dad in The Fault in Our Stars.  Here’s what he had to say about getting the role and being on set.

David Whalen, Milica Govich (Mrs. Waters), Ansel Elgort (Gus Waters), and author John Green

“I’m thrilled. What a great cast to have. At my callback, just to meet the director, Josh Boone, and the producers, they were the nicest group of people ever. So when I got cast, needless to say I was thrilled. Plus, my daughter’s favorite actress, and all of her girlfriends’ at Knoch High School, is Shailene.”

Earlier this week, Mr. Whalen reported that Madison, 16, was treated to a day on set, “and they treated her like a queen.”

Both father and daughter are fans of the book. Mr. Whalen found John Green’s young adult novel of two teenage cancer patients to be “moving and so well-written without being pandering” to an age group. Like the recently shot-in-Pittsburgh “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” no vampires or superpowers, just families and kids coping with hardships.
